My name is Muriel Chase and I represent ‘Australians All’ because when I was
writing a ‘Children’s Corner’ in a Western Australian newspaper under the
name ‘Aunt Mary’ I encouraged my young readers to become ‘silver
links’ in a chain of service. We all worked to raise funds for social welfare
services, and by 1904 we had raised enough money to appoint a district nurse to make home
visits. Today the state-wide organisation that my ‘Children’s Corner’
readers helped to start is known as the Silver Chain District Nursing Association.
