My name is C. J. Dennis and I represent ‘Nature’s gifts’ because in 1915
my book The Songs of the Sentimental Bloke became an instant success. The Bloke
was a love story about an ordinary couple, Bill and Doreen, and was written in verse. It
used everyday language to show that ‘life and love’ could be just as
‘splendid’ for the ‘common bloke’ as for anyone else. The Bloke
was a very popular book.
