My name is Norman Gregg and I represent ‘Advance Australia’ because in the
1940s I discovered that if a newly pregnant woman catches the disease rubella (or German
measles) it causes disabilities such as blindness, heart disease or deafness in the baby.
This discovery led to research work, which later produced a vaccine to protect young women
from the disease.
IDEA
FOR SCENE: The year is 1960 and the place is the Royal Alexandra Hospital. Sir Norman
Gregg is the president of the board of management of the hospital. Dressed in a white
coat, he sweeps into a children’s ward and looks around. About six people are
following him in a group. He takes them to one side to talk to them. They have pens and
notepads to write down what he is saying.

needs to be much brighter, it needs to be friendly and to have a homelike atmosphere. Oh
yes, and Visiting Hours are too short – how are the children supposed to get better
if they’re miserable and lonely all the time?
